An Extraordinary Map, An Extraordinary City

Learn about the motivations and processes behind the creation of the Digital City of Chicago 3D Map.

The map, installed at the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry since 2018, is an 8' x 6' 3D map of 77 community areas that make up the city of Chicago created by the LTMaker Lab.

This project was the culmination of efforts by roughly 150 students across 5 sections of Jeff and his colleague Amy Wozniak’s Innovation and Creation Lab at the prestigious Lane Tech High School.

Join Us As We Move Into Another Dimension

In this presentation, Jeff will talk about the digital design and fabrication tools used by each pair of students in the LTMaker Lab to create their part of the map. Solin will also discuss the various software applications, 3D printers, laser cutters, digital cutters, and CNC mills used by where used by each part of the team to represent each community area of Chicago.
