Out of Microchips, But We Have Plenty of Salsa

What do the buyers of a high-end GPU, a Windows 11-capable motherboard or notebook, a new car or even a laundry dryer all have in common?

All these consumers — which might include you — have to wait for perhaps a week for a common CPU, a few weeks for a dryer, and several months for a GPU, notebooks, cars, and appliances. What is going on? Not long ago, any of these purchases only took as long as the shippng time. And whether Lenovo, ASUS, LG, Tesla, or Ford, every one of these companies is waiting for chips from the semiconductor foundries like TSMC.

The great chip shortage, the subject of this talk, has affected almost everyone. The demand for integrated circuits is greater than the supply, impacting numerous industries, and sparking major shortages globally.
